Redefining the public’s role in public schools

The mission of SBI is to foster systemic socio-economic change through grassroots community initiatives that are linked to a public high school.

Our work within the A. Philip Randolph Campus High School community has developed into a model which can be replicated in cities and towns across the nation. Branded as an Inclusive Grassroots Cooperative (IGC), it has the ability to engage and empower public school communities leading to opportunities for new economic growth.

Celebrating 30 Years

Who is leading the campaign?:

Short answer -- YOU! By participating in this virtual campaign, you have the option to become a member of the AFC. This is a great opportunity to reach out to former classmates, your friends and family.

What is The Alumni and Friends Committee (AFC)?

The AFC was created in November 2019 by a group of core SBI and APRCHS alumni, staff, and supporters with the hopes of eventually becoming a critical decision-making force for SBI.

The mobilization of the AFC runs on the spirit of "by the people, for the people", as it is the belief that those who experienced SBI at Randolph know best how to inform the organization's future.

When is the campaign?:

The campaign is from September 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020.

What is the goal/mission?:

The 30-for-30 Campaign will run towards our Virtual Benefit Gala, which will premiere world-wide on October 11, 2020. This campaign asks our fellow alumni, friends, and family to donate $1 for each of the 30 years that Mr. Charles Thompson, Founder and Executive Director of SBI, has been at A. Philip Randolph Campus High School. The goal is to collectively raise $60,000, which will be used to support pandemic-related fiscal impact at APRCHS and restore one full-time college counselor at the school, as well as four part-time student assistants for the upcoming 2020-21 school year.

Everyone who donates to the campaign has the option to join the AFC. Members will be invited to events, campaigns, and other plans to continue to preserve and build upon the Randolph High Legacy of Empowerment. The school's Legacy of Empowerment are the thousands of grads who were able to pursue career paths that elevated their socio-economic status and provided them with access to leadership roles in our society.

How does this work?:

Each APRCHS graduating class has been assigned a Class Representative who will be reaching out to folks in their cohort, and will help each member set up their fundraising profile for The 30-for-30 Campaign team fundraising page. With our new and modern fundraising technology, fellow alumni, friends, and their families will be able to easily donate online or on their mobile phones.

Don't want to wait?

From the campaign page, click "Teams", find your APRCHS graduating class, click "Join Team", set up your fundraising profile, donate $30, and share with friends and family!
